Final Artist Statement #2

The Exquisite Corpse project was something I had a great deal of fun making. During the lab I developed some confidence with the tools in Adobe Audition. The variety of effects allowed for a number of unique sounds. My initial idea surrounding the project was to focus on making an eerie, Halloween themed piece. This idea transitioned into a space, UFO themed setting, thanks to the multitude of echoey distortions and effects. Unfortunately I struggled with conveying my ideas to the software. It felt at times that many of the sounds did not mesh, and there were weird silences which should have had substance. During the lab I felt the sounds I was using were flowing together, but as I began to make my final project, I lacked direction and inspiration. When creating a song of that length, it is hard to determine what ideas have already been used, and what is still on par with the theme. I found myself refraining from overlapping sounds and rushing to complete the project in time. I do believe, though, that if I were to use this software for some sort of audio editing in the future, I would be able to confidently produce something well-polished and professional. I had some experience trying to use Garageband, but I felt this software was much more manageable and ergonomic, even if they serve different purposes. All in all, I am proud of the project I produced, even though many of my peers created much more interesting sounds.
