Project #3 Final Artist Statement

This project was one which gave me the hardest time out of all the others. I found difficulty maintaining motivation throughout the project, as the learning curve with many of the tools was very steep. I had the basis of photoshop covered, but my skills in the animation software were lacking. Ultimately, I could've used Procreate on my iPad to create more fluent animations, but that would be another tool I needed to learn, with very little time in-between. To me, the software of both Animate and Aftereffects is intuitive, but it takes time to master, time which I did not set aside (in-spite of Corrina's warnings). In terms of the content of the project, I chose scenes which were symbolic to my creative journey. For example, the house scene is a painting of Ed Hoppers and the bar scene references one of my favorite movies - The Shining. I believe, though, that while the animation was lacking, some of the sound design was done well (aside from my speaking). Buying into the "bad" of a project can sometimes be difficult; however, near the end of the project I was determined to make the work as bad as possible. This explains my insistence on yelling into the microphone. I did enjoy the intro and outro scenes, as they provided a decent base for the story being told. I used my own artwork in those scenes, symbolic of my reluctance to create anything worthwhile in a long time. I do believe, now, that I could create a better project in After Effects using the tools I learned the night before this project was due.
